Known as the English variant of the better-known Mothman, the Owlman is a cryptid that stalks a Cornish church, yet seems to only be seen by young women.

The first known sighting of the Owlman was on April 17th, 1976 when two young girls supposedly saw the creature while vacationing in the Mawnan, Corwall, UK.
June and Vicky Melling claimed to have seen a large winged creature hovering above the local church St. Mawnan and St. Stephen’s Church. Apparently the large feathered being was frightening enough to cut the family’s vacation short, as they promptly left Mawnan.
The Owlman was supposedly spotted again in July the same year, by two 14-year-old girls.
This cryptid appears as a large bipedal man mixed with a bear and an owl, with red glowing eyes and sharp pincer-like claws. It lets out a deep “HOO” whenever it is seen.
Apart from the Owlman being sighted in 1976, there was also a significant amount of “high strangeness” (unexplainable strange happenings) around Cornwall.
This included UFO sightings, as well as sightings of other cryptids like the mysterious Cornish Big Cats and the sea serpent Morgawr.
Nowadays, skeptics believe the Owlman to be nothing more than a misidentified Eurasian eagle owl.

It would make sense: barn owls commonly roost in and around church towers. And the Eurasian eagle owl looks a lot like our more spooky friend.
