Ningen

While a lot of cryptids have earlier sightings in our timeline, the Ningen was only first sighted in the 1960s! This colossal aquatic creature supposedly dwells in the Antarctic ocean: an ocean remote enough that sightings are sparse.

The Ningen’s back seems to be breaching the water, with long spindly arms reaching out to the side.

Popularized by its inclusion in the 2007 MU Magazine (a Japanese magazine dedicated to the paranormal), the Ningen is a modern sea monster of epic proportions.

Supposedly, the Ningen reaches between 20 – 30 meters in length (65 – 98 feet), which is about the size of the largest recorded blue whale!

The Ningen is described as being completely white in color and having a humanoid shape. They often sport arms with even five-fingered hands. Its said to have eyes and a mouth, though a more detailed description is lacking. Ningen either have human-like legs or a mermaid-esque tail.

Upon first sighting a Ningen in the 1960s, a Japanese research reportedly thought the creature to be a foreign submarine. Upon approaching, they saw movement that indicated it to be a living creature.

Skeptics believe the Ningen to be nothing more than misidentified whales or ice, due to many sightings occurring at night.

The lack of physical evidence of the Ningen, despite anecdotal evidence that such photographs exist, have created an entirely new conspiracy.

It’s thought that the government, primarily the Japanese government, seeks to silence any information regarding the Ningen to allow Antarctic research to continue unimpeded from cryptid-hunters.
